Just wondering if there are any web note collectors here? I am thinking of selling my collection of around 100 notes. They were all collected in the late 1990's from circulation. There are a few that are a little crisp but none that are crisp uncirculated. If you are looking for a certain note let me know and I will see if I have it and if I do I can e-mail you a scan/photo. Thanks for reading,
John1

John,
I do not collect these. BUT why not put a list together with block, run number, condition etc and shop it around with some online dealers.
Are you a member at CU (collectors forum)? It may move faster over there than here.
Good luck.

John,
Aside from a few TPG Web Notes I have saved for my granddaughters college education, I stopped collecting them some years back (I don't remember the year) and sold around 300 web's for 10% over face...
This message is to offer you a price guide value that's listed in "The Standard Handbook of $1 Web-Fed Test Notes - 1998A, 1993, 1995 (second edition)" by Bob Kvederas Jr. & Sr..
I would need the Series Number, Block, Run (serial numbers) and Plate combo's of each note, along with the following three note condition (Fine, Extra Fine & UNC)...
I know this would be very time consuming on both your and my part, but if you want to compile a list and email it to me, I would be more then happy to help you out...

Example; a Series 1988A
A-F Block, Run #1, Plate Combo 1-2 (front/back) lists a catalog value of $450.00 in Fine, $600.00 in XF and $850.00 in Uncirculated conditions...

Broken-Coin, Thank you very much for your offer but I wouldn't want you to waste your time. I have a sheet listing the notes but they are mostly in g-vg condition and not worth much. I have checked this web site http://www.webpressnotes.com/webnotesinfo.htm so I have an idea of value. I emailed them but got no response. Thanks again for your offer.

About 19 years ago I was a member of the USAF and one afternoon I was lounging in my house and got a phone call from a friend. This friend told me I needed to get down to the BX (Base Exchange) right away because they were handing out ''missprinted'' one dollar bills at the cashier counter. I had zero interest in collecting rare or missprinted money (still don't to be honest) but I decided why not. At the time I no idea what was ''missprinted'' about these ones, but I bought 6 of them nonetheless. I received 1 random serial number and 5 consecutive serial numbers. I tucked them away in a drawer, and basically forgot about them. Every few years I run across my little stash and think ''I should find out what those are''. Well today I did just that. It turns out I have 6 Web Notes. They are in Uncirculated Condition and have not been handled except very briefly since the day I got them. Through my limited research today I can give the following information:

Series 1988A
F-N Block
Run #11
Plate Combo 3-4
SN 68821029
SN 64987334
SN 64987335
SN 64987336
SN 64987337
SN 64987338

So my questions are?
1) Would it be wiser to sell them or hold on for now? My limited research has yielded information that these are getting quite rare.
2) Does the fact that I have 5 consecutive serial numbers mean anything?

Thank you in advance for any help or insight.

Shawn

Well sab_1970 first off to the forum.

So I gather that they really aren't misprinted then? I am by no means an expert on anything including web notes but I will do what I can. I'm sure you have checked web sites such as this one http://www.webpressnotes.com/1988afn1134.htm to try to find out the value of these notes. To tell the truth I have never seen a note sell for as high as these sites list them at.

I picked up a few graded ones on ebay for around a lot less than the "book value". There is a population of notes and every time someone surfaces with more the value goes down since the rarity changes with the new find.

Anyway, you ask if the consecutive serials make a difference, yes it does. A collector would definitely want to buy the lot because of the condition and serials. But the "should you sell question" is one only you can answer. You probably wont get for them what you think you will if you try to sell them on ebay. I personally think you would get a better price selling to a collector in this case. Notice I said a collector, not a dealer.

If you decide to sell them and aren't in a hurry you will no doubt get a better price. ebay is more for people who want to sell fast and are willing to take what they get. You have taken the first step by getting the word out but there is more you can do. There are other forums that deal with currency and you can certainly hit them as well to expose more collectors to the notes. Take pictures or scans (preferable) of them and post some, a nice close up detailed shot of a single note and then a group shot would do nicely.

If you do decide to sell I wish you luck! If you decide to keep them... collecting can be very satisfying and even fun.

*Edited to add*
If you don't have those notes in some kind of protective sleeve do so. Go down to your local coin shop and purchase 6 of them and carefully put them in. Even the tiniest amount of wear will keep them from selling at top dollar!

Nickelman,

Thank you very much for your reply, I really appreciate such a quick response.

No, as far as I can tell they are definately not missprinted in any way, that was just the story I got those many years ago.

I guess I sort of knew the answer to my own question about selling them before I even asked, but I wanted to get some perspective nonetheless. I have held on to them for nearly 20 years now, so I must not be in any hurry to let em go. Maybe I can pass em on to my kids some day, and they will find some joy in the collection or profit from their value at a future date.

They are in a sleeve, but I think I will go down to the local coin shop and see if I can put together something a bit more formal and protective to keep the notes in, along with some information about their history.

I do want to say I one last thing. I do collect, just not coins and money. My interest is in Magic the Gathering cards from the time the game started, and I have quite a horde. I never sell any of those either.

Thanks again,
Shawn
