When oonsidering the spot price, what is the typical mark-up or premium on silver eagles? I need to get one for my 7070 type set and I have never bought one before and I plan on this being my only one so I wanted to know what I should expect. It is a buck or 2 or usually a percentage over spot? Thanks for the help.

my advice is to shop around. Most of my shopping is online, and prices can span from a few dollars over spot, to much more. Some sites are $46, some are $65. Of course that depends on if they are slabbed or not, unc or proof, and the quality. Also various years are priced higher.

$5 over spot is normal but things have been anything but normal lately when it comes to silver. If you could find one for $45, that's a good price right now.

Thanks for the advice. I am planning on just getting a "generic" raw one. Nothing from a year that commands an extra premium, no slab, no proof, just a coin for my type set. I thought I remember one dealer selling them for spot plus $2 on silver eagles but wasn't sure. I think that same dealer maybe did spot plus 10% on his "junk" silver. I might need to pay him a visit...especially with silver still dropping in price.

Consider this, the distributor who buys eagles from the Mint has to pay $2 over spot to get them
