I've always used point and shoot mostly in auto but I would like to do better with pictures. I have a Canon powershot SX130 IS. Reading the manual is like reading a foreign manual. Any help to get started would be great. I don't know camera language so detailed help is what I need.
If can get started I hope I can make adjustments necessary to take better pictures. I appreciate any help.

Thank you Brain. Just what I was looking for. I just realized I misspelled your name but I will leave it there because someone else might get a giggle out of it too.

Hey Eric. You keep rubbing the scope in. LOL. I'm very weary of getting a scope because I'm afraid of spending the money and then not being happy with it. If I learn how to use the camera properly then I shouldn't need a scope.

I am using Super Dave's thread link Bryan posted to give me better results. I've learned that downloading the images in raw is recommended. I prefer not loading Canon software unless I must and just use Photoshop. I cannot figure out how to set the images so that they download Raw. Is anyone familiar with Photoshop and knows how to do this?

RAW images are taken straight from the sensor with no processing whatsoever. All processing is done in software outside the camera. Very few non-dSLR cameras can shoot RAW images, and your SX130 isn't one of them.

RAW processing is a whole different skillset to learn, and if your camera does well enough on its' own, it's not a necessary skill or capability. I've never shot a coin in RAW. Not once.

Thanks to Dave I managed to get this shot today. I had trouble with the lighting and had to try something else. I tilted the camera up a little and tilted the coin a bit.
the light is 60 watt and straight down. I would like to get more detail especially because I am usually trying to get images of errors. I see I have shadows that I need to fix.
