So I posted a...post about a week ago about how
I found a 1936
Buffalo nickel in great condition and that it was my favourite find but it has been now bumped down to second place.
And here's why:
Every month I set aside maybe 35 dollars to exchange for rolls of coins(mostly nickels) at the bank and search through them, pick out any coins I need or are old, silver, foreign, etc.
Then the next day or so I'll take the leftovers to the Coinstar, get cash and repeat the process.
So a few days ago I picked up 15 paper machine-rolled rolls of nickels,
took them home opened 2 or 3,
found a cool Cayman Islands nickel and a couple silvers, and on the 4th roll,
I was awestruck when I saw this 1899 Liberty Head nickel!
(the reverse image is a bit smaller)
I couldn't believe it!I never thought I'd find any coin that old through such an ordinary method.
This now holds the title of both my favourite
and my oldest find.
This coin roll searching is yielding much more surprising results
than I would have ever imagined.
Can anyone tell me how coins this old get
into rolls? I could see how they would if they were customer wrapped rolls and some very generous or unsuspecting people putting them in there, but my oldest
finds have been in machine rolls.
