OK guys I know Y'all have probably seen a bunch of these and must be common, but I'm trying to figure out what caused it, My guess would be grease. What do you think............

I agree with the Grease Filled Die for the weakness in the date. Pretty cool to see the same weakness in two different mints!

The corrosion is obviously rust, (some cleaned away on the S cent). The zinc coating was thin/wore away, allowing moisture to the underlying steel. Nice, unique, and unfortunate aspect for the 1943 War Cents.

Extreme die wear also happened because of the steel to steel contact of the dies/steel planchets. This caused the dies also to wear faster. Why the 4 in the date? I know I've seen this more often for this year. But your coin appears to be a grease filled example.

This is caused by the unusual die wear that occurred in 1943 due to striking steel blanks with steel dies. It is not grease filled, and it is very common.

I found one of these in a roll last week. Apparently so have others as there were three of them on sale at ebay.

None of them sold.

Mine is better than G, but not by much since it has some corrosion, but not as much as the photo.
