Really need to see the reverse but it's worth a lot more than melt if genuine. The details are close to AU. Please post a reverse picture.

The amazing feeling of holding a piece of history like this in my hand would in no way lessen its value to melt. Granted, if I had the $ to buy one, I would prefer not have a hole in it. But to say this only has silver value is to look at this gem through narrow eyes ignoring its heritage.

Anyone who says its only worth silver is either trying to rip you off or just is clueless.

50% of market value is probably in the ballpark. For this coin, that's still likely a couple thousand dollars, if it's genuine.

its amazing how I got this coin, I was helping my nieghbor clean out his mothers house because she had to sell it, this house was build in 1809 and sat on 175 anchers there was old barns , animal coops , a black smith house , and miles of old hourse drawn carriage roads through the property. as soon as you walk into the house in the kitchen this coin was nailed to the wall. I asked if I could have it and then carefully pryed it off the wall with a hammer . its amazing to me the shape it was in. theres even perfect edged lettering all along the rim. I see there are several verity types in 1800, does anyone have and idea of with one. ? ill post some more pics asap.

Quote: im tryin to sell this coin asap , so if you guys could help me out with a reasonable starting price it would be a big help for me. thanks That is a big Red Flag statement around here, vicnem3rd. Our first duty as Moderators is to protect our membership against the predators who populate numismatics, and although you almost certainly don't fit that category, all the same your post follows the typical modus operandi. Furthermore, "ASAP" is going to hurt you. Unless you're willing to accept $200 for a $900 coin, you need to take the time to maximize your return. Ensure the coin is authentic. Show it to local dealers - there are some very reputable ones in your area (and yes, based on your IP I know roughly where you are, although I'd never reveal that information unless with your permission). If you intend to ebay it (or equivalent), with this coin you will leave much of its' value on the table unless you submit it for authentication and encapsulation by one of the reputable Third-Party Graders - PCGS, NGC and ANACS. People will not trust this coin if offered "raw." Although I'm no expert on Early Dollars, I see nothing obvious which makes me think it's not authentic. It looks to be an honest, holed 1800 Dollar with XF Details, and depending on variety should be worth on the order of $1000 or so. If you do due diligence to maximize your return.

sorry I didnt know about all that , I have taken it to several dealers and they all concure its real but they are all trying to low ball me any where from 100 - 250. the only reason I use the word asap is because I need to fix my car to get to and from work , and instead of sell a good chunck of my collection I can just sell this one coin that could possibly be equal to 1/8 of my collection . I will try and be alittle more care in chosing my words next time, thanks for the heads up

and another question, I mostly deal with ANACS, would they grade this. and is it worth it if I'm trying to get more value added to the coin

Thank you for taking my comments in the right light. The average troll would have gotten all huffy at me, leading to his quick exit from our midst. I understand your desire/need to turn the coin quickly. That said, you're obviously already aware of the TPG's, and therefore aware of the time required to use them. ANACS would be an excellent choice, and my TPG of preference. They, like the others, will "Details" grade it because of the hole, but their ability to authenticate is not questioned in any circle. Your images are quite good enough to give a potential buyer enough information to evaluate the coin, in conjunction with an ANACS slab to verify authenticity. And yes, in this case I'd strongly recommend the slab over raw. This is a coin that knowledgeable collectors will really want to see in a slab. That would make ebay an option, although your track record as a seller (or lack thereof) might come in to play. People might hesitate to bid on a coin like this, offered by an inexperienced seller. Heritage, Teletrade or Stacks/Bowers is another good option, although that would add even more time to the turnaround. Another option - and I'm not just plugging them because they're my bosses - is the ebay consignment service of Bobby and Susan, the CCF owners. They've thousands of Feedbacks from ebay coin sales, and a long and impeccable record which has netted them a large clientele who follow their auctions.

I think 50% of market value is too high, but maybe around $800 at least. Those dealers are all trying to rip you off.
