As some of you may recall, a friend of mine has been letting me go though his GIANT 25-30 year old change stash. I've taken a break of at least 6 months after serious burnout. Well...now I've had this bottle sitting here longer than that and I can't find the motivation to search it:

I-Don't-Think-I-Have-The-Time,-Energy-Or-Motivation!

I don't collect nickels at all. Best I can do is try to pluck out BU's and any silver, beyond that I'm clueless. I'm trying to decide:

1) Take the whole bottle to my bank counter and dump it.
2) Sort though as fast as possible and only look for silver.
3) Sell some lots as unsearched because they truly are.

At this point in my life I really don't have time or motivation for this project! Suggestions?

I am a nickel guy, and I would say that if you really don't want to mess with them, then pull out the silver and dump the rest at the bank. I think the shipping costs would make selling an unsearched lot unattractive.

Also, if there are any in there, any Buffalo or Liberty Heads would definitely be keepers.

I say dump it at the bank so the goodies can filter down to the rest of us!

I search stuff like this for family and friends. I go through the change, roll it and replace what I take with extra "garbage coins" from around my house
then I take the rolled change back to the bank
Fun to do in my opinion if you love roll searching as much as me!

I can sympathize with the burnout. The estate I'm working with right now has way more coins than we can do justice to. There are 2 liquor boxes full of rolled pennies that we don't have the time or energy to search individually. Each roll is neatly labeled in pencil with date ranges, zinc or copper. We've checked enough rolls that we are fairly confident the labels are correct......the vast majority of these will go to the bank.

The thing is, based on the cents I've done, I'm sure there's lots of BU's from the 80's in this. Remember, this stuff is 30+ years old. I really hate the thought of tossing BU coins to the bank counter. I have a ton of really nice BU cents from searching his stuff.

Is there any neighborhood kids who want to make a buck or two? Have them search.

I would love that bottle of nickels to search. I also understand the burnout I have 5 boxes of cents sitting in the spare bedroom waiting for me.

Just look through them and send me all the 1950-D's and all the Liberty and Buffalo nickels! Thanks!

Sift through it for silver and the 50-D, and just cash in the rest imo. Unless you enjoy hanging onto pre-60 nickels, then stash those too

I am surprised Wheezy has not commented yet.

Are you sure you do not want to start a Jefferson nickel set?

Yea jbuck, I'm just not into the nickels my friend. I do like Buffalo nickels and have quite a few collecting dust, but the Jeffersons just don't excite me. I do have a couple proof Jeff toners that I enjoy, but that's about it.

I agree with most of the others Thad. Sort through them for the silver and the chance of finding a 50-d.

Who knows...you just might find enough BU examples. ;)

Might make you want to start a whole new collection...

Heck, the coins are only going to cost ya $.05 per to keep. ;)
