Not sure on the strike/die details on this or other Trade dollars but cannot find much of any rub etc. on it. Once again images are scans. I am going to have to learn to take nice pics. of coins. Hope it goes high AU ?
It is authentic by the way. Thanks.

Ha Ha. I love that you added "it's authentic, by the way."

I have an 1877-S Trade myself, in XF45 or so. When I got it I took it into my coin dealers shop to show him. Before he even saw it he told me it was fake. I had to convince him it was real (from my deceased grandpa) before I even showed it to him!

It is too bad there are so many fakes out there...

Nice coin, by the way!
Rest in Peace

Yes, it is authentic. This is one of many coins that I am currently going through from my deceased step dads inherited collection. His brother was an avid collector as well as his father etc. Coin can be traced back to the 1890's. Anything could happen but comparing it with known forgeries it has none of those attributes. Not sure how much fakery was being minted on these coins in the late 1800's but I believe most were done many years after that. Tough I guess for an accurate grade with scans. I looked at in detail the highest relief points on the coin. Those areas look like minimum rub. Compared with pics. of other dollars and taking into consideration die state/stage etc. I agree about the obv. at least in comparison to the very nice rev. (in hand AU58) I feel a middle AU at the least if net graded. If not and the obv. gets the grade period then an EF45/AU50. Might have to just decide and send it in for a slab. Thanks all for your thoughts though.

Does the coin have any lustre present at all? I'd be pretty surprised if this came back XF45 and very surprised if it came back AU. I'd say it's a lock VF-35 with a shot at XF-40.

Looks like a touch of green left of the eagle reverse. I like it as an XF with the light marks and wear.

No green by the way :)
I brought it to a dealer friend of mine.
He and another went over it. He wrote it up as EF45
but stated probably only EF40. I gave it to him for $200.00
Not positive if I did O.K. but ?
He treats me pretty good on my buys from him. I get any and all at his greysheet buy prices so one hand washes another.
He really liked it personally. I really hate to see a coin that I owned etc. put back into the glass case. You know what I mean. So, I guess this thread is pretty much dead. Thanks all for your input/thoughts etc. Now I want another Trade dollar Maybe i'll find some more when I dig furthur into the collection.
Rest in Peace
