My Grandfather left the grandchildren a coin collection. I have been able to ID and split up the collection according to value except for a few items. This old coin is one of them. I am not even sure what type of coin it is. If anyone knows what type of coin it may be that would be great. Also an estimated value would be nice as well, although even the country of origin would be a good starting point. I've looked up some info on dating Japanese coins, and I believe it is Japanese, but I am not 100% positive. If anyone has any input, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

It is pretty cool looking. I wasn't into coins very much, but after looking through his collection and grading and splitting it up between the three of us I must say that I am more intrigued. I've started paying attention to the change that I get back.

I'll probably put 5-10x of what DCH quoted - Chinese coins are insane hot this year.

Thank you very much for the info. This helps a lot. I've searched quite a while, but without a country of origin it is pretty hard to come across what an odd coin exactly is. Thanks again!
