Standing Liberty quarters. I have 1917 P and 1917 D. Sorry but I don't know the difference between Type 1 and Type 2. Probably Good or Very Good condition. Not cleaned. Sorry that I don't have pictures for you. 1923 P. 1924 D. 1925 P. 1926 P. 1926 S. 1927 P. 1927 S. 1927 D. 1928 P. 1929 P. 1929 S. 1929 D. 1930 P. What website can give me the values for these? Free sites would be best. I know I should get a Red Book ( the only one I have is Dad's 1985 edition). I know that I should be very specific about what I have but I am trying to decide if I should just sell for Spot Silver value or sell them individually. Thanks to the advice from this community I have gone to 4 local coin dealers. Also joined 2 Phoenix-area coin clubs. Set up a booth at a local coin and collectibles show. The dealers want to buy everything I've got. Sometimes the dealers get a bit excited when I open a booklet (Whitman or Dansco) and they start talking fast. So I need to do a little more research online. When I search the Coin Community archives, most of the posts are about coins that are in much better condition than mine. Dad collected these in the 1930's and 1950's. When I first started selling 2 weeks ago, silver was at a record high and the coin dealers only cared about the silver in the coins. All of the coin dealers have been very honest with me. They have paid me good prices. But I can't find the value of ordinary circulated coins.

1927-S is worth about $30 in G condition, 1927-D a little better than melt...1924-D is a nice date. 1923 slightly better date, as well as the 1917's (especially if they have dates). Type 1 has no stars below the eagle, and hence the eagle is lower...type 2 has stars. Again, numismedia helps a lot. If you can post pics eventually, we can help determine how you can sell them...but if the later dates after 1924 (besides the 1927-S and D) are just normal very worn coins, I would sell them in a silver lot and sell the rest separately. ebay is a good venue. Watch out for dealers, they are often sharks.

@Shadow, thank you. That is exactly what I needed to know. I had not been able to find an explanation of the Type 1- Type 2. Now I understand. I think the coins are VG. Dad collected them out of pocket change. I later went through bags of quarters from the bank and added to the collection in 1962. I replaced the worn coins with better ones when I could. We left these coins in storage for 8 years, then divided up the collection among heirs 2 weeks ago. I have gone to coin shows and everyone wants to buy everything I have. My original topic was "Selling Dad's coin collection" but that was changed since it looked like I was trying to sell them here. I wasn't. I just wanted to get some values before I do sell them.

No problem. It's definitely good to get a lot of opinions before selling something. I honestly would avoid selling to dealers unless it is bullion silver/gold/platinum, and even then be careful. It is more the exception than the rule that you will get a genuinely honest dealer in my opinion. If you do sell on ebay, you need to take good close up pictures and have a good title (with good keyword usage) with a return policy...not much else matters. Still, I would recommend trying to collect some of this stuff, maybe pick a series and sell everything else? Silver is still pretty high after the drop, so selling the silver could give you money to fund a collection to an extent.

Any chance that you can post some pictures? The 1924-d, if it has a full date, is very desirable and could bring close to $100 problem free. Also, the 27-s needs careful evaluation as it is often weakly struck and therefore grades higher than the details might indicate. In VF, it can bring several hundred. If you could post photos of at least those 2, we can give you a reasonable estimate. Welcome!

@johnny, I have a digital camera but don't think I know how to post photos that would be sufficiently good for this forum. The 1924 D has a full date and all letters. Only the "rivets" around the shield are visible, the center of the shield is worn away. The 1927 S is more worn. All letters are visible but the shield is worn smooth. I know that you can not give a valuation based on this description, but you have already helped me with your post. Dad's collection is 80 years old. My personal collection is 50 years old. I have sold most of Dad's. I only have the quarters and one book of Barber dimes (separate thread). My collection will be next. This forum is the best place to get advice.

you could pick up a copy of Coin Prices magazine and use the values listed as a baseline.....just need to get the condition nailed down. I'm sure many on here will give you a good condition assessment if you could post half decent pics
