Now, I have to admit that I know nothing about Peace dollars. I think I've actually owned 2 or 3.

Sooooo, I really need some suggestions for that slot. Would prefer a nice doubled die, but open to other suggestions. Again, prequisite is coolness and less than a $1 gazillion.

Give me some homework!

Thanks for your help!

I suggest you look over the Top 50 list and see if anything flat's your boat. There are many doubled die Peace dollars to choose from. Personally, I am partial to some of the spectacular breaks on them.

Why didn't I think of that! Thanks for the idea.

I'm really digging the '34-D and 28-S VAM-3's! 3 slobbers!
But, who wouldn't? I guess I should start checking out some price action and see if these are realistic for me or not.

Sorry, had to publicly over those two. There are probably more that I just haven't got to yet.

The moustache VAM is fun, too!

The Carr 1964 is interesting. It's made from a real one.

Definitely, if just for the melt value alone.

hey I have a 1923 DDR in MS-62 and a 1926 AU-58 DDR VAM-2 both in old ANACS slabs that I am probably going to be putting up in the auction section to fund my processor so I can give back this borrowed computer I am on

I have no idea where these things are doubled at, I am just stating whats on the slab. I have had them probably about 8 or 9 years and don't know why I have kept them this long. I had a MS-61 1923 DDR but gave it away as a contest prize on here I believe or a gift for some other reason

I was asked what VAM the 1923 was and to be honest I had no idea. I have had these coins for many years and may have looked it up when I got them but at the time this one wasn't designated yet but I looked it up again tonight and it is a VAM-11A which is a R6 coin

The 34-D DDO is a nice doubled die Peace dollar. The doubling on the rays is visible to the naked eye and the coin is not that expensive up to mint state grades.

Most if not all of the DDR coins can only be seen under magnification and don't do much for me. IMO, the most visually stunning Peace dollar VAM is the 1922 Earring coin which is just a spectacular and completely unmissably huge die break on the obverse. Here's mine. In mint state, however, it's a pricy coin.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. That's a monster break. I'll probably pursue that one anyway!

But as far as the type set, I've pretty much decided on the 34-D VAM-3. Like you said - it's visually appealing and easily obtainable.

Thanks for all the awesome suggestions!

Peace dollars for the series are much more affordable than the Morgan series...there are much fewer coins and less people chasing after the VAM thingy's even if you don't chase the VAM thing...you can still find those vams with out overspending for them however there are Peace dollar vammers, you may pay some more than usual for the grade due to the VAM thing..but you won't have an army to bid against...
the series in general is quite affordable and only 3 or so real key coins which can be easily bought where as the morgan series has some real stumpers where you need $3-400 bucks to get into an EF/AU coin. such as the years of 1893 to 1895 3 years and 4 mint marks leads to thousands of bucks just for those years and there are many more expensive key dates.... with about 20 coins in the entire Peace dollar collection, about 3 grand could land you a collection with many MS average coins...might cost you half a million to do that in the Morgan series....good luck in your adventure!!
