Does anyone have a price/percentage range regarding the difference you would pay between what you can get on ebay and what you would actually pay for at a coin/dealer shop in general?

Rest in Peace

kg2blade, very interesting but very tough question to answer. I don't know if you can "boilerplate" any two dealers. There are many variables at work with a dealer. Both dealers I use sell on ebay as well as in their brick and mortar facilities. Many times they will do a quick past sales search on ebay or Heritage as well as referencing grey-sheet pricing to determine what the market is doing. Rarity, the dealers inventory, saleability etc.... all come into play. The type of relationship you have established with the dealer comes into play as well.

I'll be interested to see if someone has a basic "formula" they use in making a % determination. Mike

That's a rather unfair question. Some dealers might be honest whereas some dealers dream on making fat profit without doing much work.

Well, I would have to say that it differs from dealer to dealer. For example, there is a coin store in downtown Toronto located on one of the busiest streets. I can only imaging what the guy pays in rent every month, but his dealer premium seems to be in the %100 range (coins are being consistently sold for twice+ their catalogue value).

ebay sellers have no overhead (other than listing fees) and due to large volume of sales are able to take a hit from time to time. You lack the personal touch, but you can get some good deals (if you know what you are buying).

Just my 2 kopeiki...
