Hello
new here was referred by a guy on the metal detecting forum I'm a member of.
I found this quarter in my change and noticed what seems to be an error on it but I dont know what it's from
can anyone let me know? Is this common? It's weird how the circle breaks between every letter
Cheers :)

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry, can you get us a clearer picture so we can see what's happening there?

Hi thanks for the welcome
Unfortunately I only have my iPhone and that was the clearest pic I could get up close. I have a friend with a great camera that can take up close pics but that wont be for 2 weeks or so
. Sorry :(

Well I took the image and fiddled around with gamma and contrast but there aren't a lot of pixels to play with. It looks damaged to me, a counting machine or rolled in something. I don't think it's a mint error, a better photo might prove me wrong though.

to CCF. Could it be a deteriorated die,a.k.a. worn out die? I see this a lot on Lincoln cents.

I'm wondering if it's rim-flash?

rim flash happens every so often on Lincoln cents, mostly the wheat reverse issues. The planchet ends up with a bit extra metal around the rim, going into the fields, during the upsetting process, and gets struck.

Tam, thanks for the explanation on rim flash. I just noticed that you are about 25 miles from where I am. I am in Arenac county. Small world.

is there any way to find out what the exact error is? I've had so many different opinions some say mint error others say dirt or tampering some say coin rollers
