Just wondering if this would be considered a strike through? If Not What would it be classed as? It was found in a BU roll of 1964 nickels. No hair on the beavers back and the Queen's hair on the obverse is raised but no detail in the hair.

Whoa... super neat...
I don't think that was planchet was annealed. You have reduced detail and depth in every aspect of the coin and the fields are lacking evidence of flow.... that whole coin has the shine of raw nickel.

LOL! I hear ya bibd! I did a double take.
I think it could be just a weak strike in general. Are those areas the highest points of detail to show wear first on both sides?

I hear ya Scoob, but imo if it were just a weak strike the denticles would be more shallow.... cutting dentincles into hardened nickel is reasonable, but surface features... another matter.
Let's hear some other thoughts :)
Besides Nair.

You mention roll, but then mention a PL-64 grade. Is it a business strike or a proof-like strike?

And if it is a business strike, for what business?

Business strikes are coins struck for circulation, that term is applicable for US coins as well.

Yes the waterline is slightly shorter on this 1964 as well on the 1965. It seems they vary a little but only minor. When I find one totally gone, then I would consider it a variety.

That non-annealing theory of Ugly is very interesting. I've never heard of that before. Cool coin, anyway.
By the way, am I in trouble? I didn't mean to get the whole thread re-named! Our Canadian 5c piece had been the object of a few laughs on here in the past.
