I don't know much about medallions, but I have a few. My strategy, in the light of a lack of knowledge, is I may buy it if:
1. I like it,
2. The bullion value seems OK for the price,
3. I may just happen to know something about the piece I am considering.
4. Overall value for money seem OK.
If I get a 'yes' to at least three, I may consider buying it.
One of the problems with medals, with someone like myself on the periphery of the medals scene, is that I usually cannot justify the purchase of the references, which are essential, if you want to be a serious collector in this field. My medal collection is just too small.
