*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Hi I decided to go through my metal detecting coins after 10 years and came up with a lot of good coins. 2 1909 s vdb's, 1914 d, 1922 weak s, and my favorite. The 1943/44 copper penny. I need some input on what ya'll thnk and if I should pursue getting it appraised. I hope the pictures I have on this link are satisfactory for all. It is photo bucket and there are ways to zoom in. If you cannot, I can send the photo's to ya'll by e-mail. Thanks for your help on this one as I don't really know the next step. http://s1090.photobucket.com/albums.../rpeternell/ Sincerely, Robert M Peternell

Not sure what you are saying about a possible 43. I only see the 44. Is it magnetic? Unlikely though. Can you picture some of the others like the 1909S VDB and/or the 14D? Quote: 1922 weak s, I'd like to see a photo of the 1922 weak S if possible. That would be really rare. In 1922 all were made in Denver and some had weak D's but I never heard of a weak S.

I agree with Carl. But now I am more confused! Why did you start a second thread?
Any MODS or ADMIN-can you combine the two threads or delete the first one?

We cannot combine threads, but I posted a link to this one in the other one, which is now locked.

A LWC 44/43 would involve a Doubled die, since the date was part of the hub. A 44/43 would be a major variety--has it been documented? I collect overdates on world coins, since they're much easier to find than say, 1918/7-D Buffalo nickels.

RPeternell I think you have to do some more research into the coins that you have, The 1944 Lincoln Wheat cent shown in the pictures is a very common coin. I don't see a 1943 copper penny in your photos. They are extremely rare as most of them were minted using steel instead of copper due to WWII. Post pictures of the 1909S VDB and the 1914D so we can see exactly what you've found and give you a better idea on what your next step should be.

I HIGHLY doubt that you can find 2 09S VDBs, a 14 D and a coin that doesn't even exist.
the only place that 22 cents were made was in Denver, its not possible to have a coin from a mint that didnt make coins that year

^Right Adam...I've been confused since this post started. In his original post he said the 43 was dated on the back?

Looks like a regular 1944 copper to me. I think you may be trying to make ordinary nicks, dings, and other marks into something that they are not. I'd like to see pictures of the other coins too.

I the new member and suggest we all reserve judgement on the veracity of claims until photographic evidence is presented. Your 1944 Lincoln is a common coin ... but the others you claim to have would be truly special. Sooo ... show us the photos. David
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

When I looked at your pictures, I'm not sure of what I'm supposed to be seeing. I'd like to see the two 1909 s vdb.

Thanks nickelsearcher. What the heck is going on lately here anyway? A new member hops on board and some of you are jumping all over him. Now he is probably feeling pretty bad and may not show up again. Hope I'm wrong. Personally I do not like what i have been reading in a lot of the forums lately. especially this one. I know I am guilty of clowning around etc. over the past 3 years but would never try to make another uncomfortable about posting a question or two. I think if one has nothing positive or helpful to say (a little humor is acceptable) then please just nip it. RPeternell, We would all like to see some pics. of your other finds. Thanks.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately depending on your perspective) this hobby lends itself to intense scrutiny of someones claims, especially if the claimant is new to the forum. Having said that, I think that all the posted responders are asking for really is some credible evidence in the form of photos, provenance etc. It's called "trust but verify". Lets allow the thread to run it's course, and if the experts (and there are many at this website) chime in, I'm confident that most of the issues will be resolved. In the meantime, welcome RPeternell to the forum and acknowledge that the ball is in his court. Above all, let's be civil.
