Let them go. After a couple months they'll realize they aren't all that important in the big picture anymore. It will affect absolutely nothing for me in this age of electronic bill payments and communications - they are just a low cost way to send small physical objects. But it's nothing that won't wait. 2-3 months would be a good time frame, 10 per cent reduction in work force would be nice. Seriously, I'd sell ten posties down the river to for one more cop in a cruiser stopping drunk drivers or I'd sell 30 down the river for a three man dedicated response team for kidnapped children in a city center. The feds need to get their head screwed on right and set some decent priorities, the money tap is running in reverse right now and these things need to be rejigged. The concept that there should be more staff for a diminishing workload is outrageous. They are technically a profit center at the prices they charge so use it to subsidize real needs. In case you think I'm totally heartless, I'm not really; Quote: Meanwhile, Canada Post has reached an agreement with the union to bring in volunteer postal workers to deliver cheques to pensioners and those on social assistance should a labour disruption occur. It's time for Canada Post to be completely replaced by private enterprise. The citizen has a myriad of safe, secure and FREE options for communication. Only jobs related to national/local security, safety and sovereignty should exist in government. And, I can't see how delivering Amazon and ebay purchases, or burying us in junk mail, qualifies.

Yikes. And I was only nicely intending to let people know the mail in Canada may be disrupted, in case they have mail enroute or are planning to mail things out --- since I know a lot of people here currently use the mail services

Well...I just hope my Microscope gets here by Tuesday. I ordered it on April 30 and according to ebay the company mailed it on May 1. It is now May 22 and no Microscope yet. I'm starting to get annoyed. This is the first time I have ordered a item from one of the Hong Kong ebay sellers and it has taken longer then 2 weeks to arrive. Now I have to worry about a possible postal strike and I need to head out of town on the 30th for a few weeks. I wanted to take the micro with me to help pass the time. Sigh. TWO DAYS!! It better arrive. LOL!

I'm lucky in that I live close enough to the border that I can have items shipped to a company in the US and pick things up there. Even with paying them $3 per parcel it is usually 1/2 the cost of having something shipped right to my door and with customs holding mail for sometimes 2 weeks.. I get my stuff a lot faster as well!

Canada Post strike threat eases. It appears a strike by Canada Post workers has been averted, at least for now. The union representing urban postal workers presented a new contract proposal. Glenn

I already express my opinion on the subject in an earlier post.Let them strike, let go half the members and reduce the remaining workers wages by 15%.Our government should show the unions who is in charge well in my dreams that is.

Yeppers. Apparently from the news, no strike on Wed BUT there was a comment in the CBC story that "the earliest they could go on strike would be Friday" ... so there could still be a strike I guess ;)

I don't think they want to strike.. this is a bad point in time. Majority parliament with conservatives, decreasing amounts of addressed mail and so on...
I'd be hustling my buns off to stay at the table. Once you strike, that can't be undone and you risk parliament sending you back to work and gaining nothing.

Do the workers go without pay when off on strike?

They get strike pay from the union and then they try and negotiate back pay (while they were on strike) into any agreement. Sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't.

Well, thought I should pop in and mention that I haven't seen or heard anything else about mail strike, so as far as I know, mail delivery is still happening ;)
