I was surprised to see a price guide for
US coins and type coins, in all grades, online by the Professional Coin Grading Service accessible at <
http://www.pcgs.com/prices >. The site also has a link to Coin Facts <
http://www.coinfacts.com > which has the history and other information about Colonial and
United States coins with spectacular color pictures that used to be found only in the "Red Book." I remember the old days of coin collecting in the 1960s and 1970s, when the only numismatic resources for average collectors were the annual "
Red Book" and a subscription to "
Numismatic News" or "Coin World." Those days are long gone, and the change is all for the better. Even the latest news and articles on all aspects of numismatics can be found at Coin Link <
http://www.coinlink.com >. The purchase of coins, which used to take weeks for the payment to be sent and the coin ordered from the ad (if even still available) to be shipped, is now almost instaneous. I ordered an 1860-O SL dollar from Harlan Berk on a Friday and received it on Monday. O quae mutatio rerum!
