Came across this 1859 with some missing serifs etc. I assume probably a filled die or something along that line.
What do you guys think?

Quote, Punches and Varieties. Punches, the tools witch sink the dies often suffered damage, producing dies with broken or weak digits and letters. Punches which have been in use for long periods of time also exhibit ware. On large cents the most dramatic example of punch damage is found on the obverse legend, for example those of OC-1 and OC-1a. Unquote.

I almost kicked myself for not buying it sooner.

This didn't result from a damaged punch. It came from a filled die - grease or grime in the die. Fairly common occurance on provinicial cents.
