Hello,

Is the Cherry Pickers Guide the best reference work for double-dies, errors, and the like?

I am just getting back into some collecting after many, many years. I collected into my early teens and am now about to turn 44 on Sunday.

If there is a better reference for the money, or other references worth having in addition, might you please let me know.

I, of course, already have the 2011 Red and Blue books.

As far as books, Yes the Cherry Pickers Guide is a good one to start
with. All the varieties are recognized by the major Third Party Grading Company's
On the Internet you can find the same information on the same varieties and tons more varieties
that never make it into the Cherry Pickers Guide. There is entire websites devoted to all the discovered varieties of almost every denomination of coin. That are updated all the time with new discoveries.

Examples:
CopperCoins.com , Lincoln Cent Resource For Lincoln Cents

The Ike Group ( Eisenhower dollars) and VamWorld for Morgan And Peace
Dollars.
Just to name a few

I hope this helps

Terry

You'll probably want to pick up a copy of "Strike It Rich With Pocket Change" also. The Cherrypickers' guides covers varieties, while Strike it Rich covers errors. All of them are good.

If you are wanting a general book that covers all the series, yes. But understand it DOESN'T show all the known varieties for each series. If you want all the variety information on a specific series then you usually need the specific books for that series.

The Books A Million has Cherry Pickers and Strike It Rich. I may get both of them on clear paydays.

I noticed that PCGS also has a subscription service for looking at coins, their value, and the like. I will have to look over the available resources and decide what is best for me.

Seeing that money is more of an issue than before, I want to make the best decision. I think for now the two books mentioned, along with various web pages, may be the best solution.

Might anyone suggest more web pages for reference?

Thank you again,

Kenscott
