bad luck continues- Went through 20 rolls of nickels, dimes, cents, and halves. Found one 40% half, one Wheat cent and this dime.

aside from this dime I did find this quarter on the street.
let me know what you think.

another pic.
was it a greased die error or did it just wear itself off due to handling...

Lots of questions and two coins for one post ... suggest you focus you topics (and thread titles) by coin so we can reply in the most helpful manner.

I'm going to ignore the quarter and offer some opinions on the dime ...

Notice that the obverse rim is fully intact in the areas where the legends (lettering) is weak ... so this can not be circulation wear.

I believe you already hit on the answer ... a grease filled strike that resulted in weak legends.

I have many dimes like this
some even have weak liberty strikes
are they worth anything to people or are they just fun to pull from circulation?
I save all of mine
I will also add that I see nothing wrong with showing the quarter too
Post it in the quarter searching thread
I one of a few that use it, but thats a nice looking strike
I search quarter boxes and don't pull very many beauties out

I'm very amateur at grading but I would also say it is due to the die. Notice how the hairline is still defined which is raised almost twice as high as the date....the hair would show more wear.

The dime was Struck Through Grease - not wear and not an issue with the die. These are pretty common, but do occasionally sell for a small premium on ebay (as in somewhere between $0.10 and $1.00) if the stars are right. Personally, I'd spend the dime and keep the quarter if you're working on a quarter album.
