Here's a fun coin. A few weird things show up in the pictures.

1- The Date looks re-punched with the 865 doubled.
2- IN GOD and TRUST are weak, but the WE is strong!
3- A Die Break through the AMER with a missing pieces at the bottom of the A, M, E and the R, the M-E-R are joined by missing metal in the die. The top of the "R" is not flat and shows where the die break caused the metal to shift toward the rim. This reverse die was about to fail.
4- A second small die break runs from above the last A in AMERICA, through the wheat stalks and ends at the end of the right ribbon.
5- A Third Die Break runs from the end of the left wheat stalk to the you in UNITED.

Any guesses on grade and value? THANKS!

Very interesting coin, with lots of cool things happening and amazingly nice details for its age. This looks to be EF-AU range, but this is not one of my specialties.

The pictures are not high enough resolution for me to determine the variety if any. It shows none of the major indicators of a RPD variety except maybe KF-16-RPD but I would need a close up picture to be sure.
There is another 2 Cent with the sale die crack and Cud as yours posted elsewhere on the forum. in the grading section I think.

nohope587,

I love your 1865 2 Cent and I agree, you got a great price.

THANKS for pointing out the other coin posted here. Yes, that coin and mine were struck with the same reverse die. https://goccf.com/t/72541 I've posted some large format photos on flickr.com. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kostyn...photostream/ is the obverse and http://www.flickr.com/photos/kostyn...photostream/ is the reverse.

If you can tell anything from these photos, let me know.

One thing that you'll be able to see that most if not all of the letters and the "2" have a raised outline around them. Any ideas of why?

Thanks for taking a look.

nohope587,

THANKS for the link. I've been looking at all of your coins.

I'm hoping to get another FX sensor Nikon camera soon. The shots I've been uploading are with a DX sensor camera with a 28mm-70mm zoom. I know an FX will bring out all the details and a macro lens will help. Until then I'll try to get better focus with what I have.

Thanks for your help!
Ben
