I'm listening to the midnight news (in the Land Down-Under), and it is reported that PayPal has commenced litigation against Google.
I didn't grasp the details, but I'm sure there will be more, sooner rather later ...

This could be fun.

I suspect Google considered this angle, and is viewing the lawsuit as a "cost of business" with the endgame being to break Paypal's back. If you look at financials, you'll note that in 2010 Google's Net exceeded ebay's Gross; I think Google can afford to take the hit.

Google Wallet would be a welcomed competitor, and PayPal's response would benefit end-users.
Google has been sued over its books project, but that hasn't stopped them.
Unless Google has stolen PayPal's source code directly, I think it will be hard to win on stealing an "idea"; like the Apple vs. MSFT GUI suit.

^ I totaly agree! Unfortunately (or not) I am not a corporate attorney. The marketplace of ideas has been purchased by those that can afford to litigate their positions. "Competition" has become more a "legal" idea than an entreprenuerial one. IMHO

Hey, if paypal does that, why don't I sue everyone on this forum for stealing my idea of collecting coins?

Darn it Penny Man, I was trying to avoid this exact situation by hiding my activities. Would you settle out of court for a few large cents?

Fantastic, competition from Google will perhaps get PayPal to lower some of their ridiculous fees.

I couldn't be more happy that paypal is finally getting some much needed competition. Their customer service is nearly non existant and the prices have risen far too high over the years. Buyers are nearly universally favored in disputes (I have my own 2 horror stories over the past 10 years) and I truly believe the company is plain crooked as hell.
