Guy on the phone refused to increase selling limit because of this. I have the below standard thing because a few morons dinged me for 'item as described'; at least one or two were intentional revenge(including someone who is a major seller). Is this something I should actually be worried about? It seems ridiculous that you can be 'below standard' with 4.8 or 4.9 just because you got unlucky.

I don't use ebay that often, but it definitely sound unfair. That is just too strict.

Yeah especially since the description for 3 stars is pretty much neutral.

What's the selling limit? I didn't even know they had one but I guess I have never sold in volume on there. Anyway, it seems odd that they would limit you in any way since that will cost them revenue from fees.

I am mostly a buyer on ebay, with only 3-4 sales a month. When I first started selling on ebay, I had the tiniest limit of $500 or 10 items per month, whichever comes first. Couldn't even sell an iPhone, which is what I wanted to sell. Then after a few sales and after getting verified and all that, it is now reasonable enough for me, at $5,000 or 100 items.

Oh wow...no idea they were doing dollar limits or item limits. I suppose its make sense somewhat for a brand new person joining and selling higher ticket items but then again ebay is just a venue and they are hurting themselves by putting limits on sellers. Who's to say that someone who was a casual seller perviously may have lost their job and are forced to sell higher dollar items and/or more items so that they can make ends meet?

870...but he refused to increase it on a secondary account both me and my girlfriend use because primarily account is 'below standard'. I have the 100 item limit but it isn't enough, and I wanted to use the main one for buying for awhile...He was rude, unsympathetic, and acted like I had done something wrong. How dare I get 5 low ratings out of 500....especially if most of them are questionable at best.

The only count the 1 and 2 star ratings, but nowhere do they tell buyers "If you leave more than 1% of these ratings the seller may be punished". If its conceivable that more than 1% of sellers are jerks, isn't it conceivable that more than 1% of buyers are jerks and that for many, many sellers more than 1% will leave bad ratings (especially since buyers tend to leave either 1 or 5)

I have went out of my way to please buyers, except one time...but I think in the long run they're just going to cut down their revenue from the smaller size sellers. I guess that is what they want because I read somewhere that they want to turn ebay into a more retail oriented 'strip mall' type setting. The main reason I am annoyed at this is because there is virtually zero spread between 'top rated' and 'below standard'. It's a low enough spread that it can be attributed to luck in instances. If you are a 500 feedback seller, the amount of low ratings between top rated and below standard is THREE. If you had 20 low ratings with 500 feedback, then maybe I could see below standard.

Unfortunately this is the ebay way. They've ALWAYS been like this. When the new CEO took over like I want to say 5 years ago they promised better customer service and a better quality control team. What we got were raised prices, new terrible policies, and a very real threat of being limited to ONLY accepting paypal (which could still happen). There is no need to retain sellers because someone will always fill the void and the buyers aren't going anywhere. Unfortunately there is just no need to retain your business. They treat you like garbage and you either deal with it for the exposure or you leave.
