Ok... still learning, but that is what this is about right! 1964 JFK Half, signs of DDO and DDR but alot look Mechanical. Any suggestions? The "E" and the "R" are OBV, obviously...

I am sure an expert will chime in on your question but in the mean time what are you using for photography?

A Lighthouse USB Digital Microscope Camera 20x to 200x... I am happy with it! I also have a Canon S2IS with Macro and Super-Macro... of course I just put up a couple pics, normally take about 24 - 30 of each coin... :-)

Just for fun, I'm going to throw out a guess--die deterioration doubling.

About the only determinant I can clearly see is that the coin has shelving, I don't see notching, so I'm with Machine Doubling. Still, nice MD specimen!!

Flat, shelf like and nothing really enlarged just damaged. Machine Doubling.
Die Deterioration is usally on the devices that face the rim.
Die abrasion happens from polishings to cover clashes reducing the devices where the field/devices make contact while a planchet didn't get into the chamber before the stiking could occur. The removal of the clash may affect shallow/lower devices on the die. But that is just a normal event in a dies life.

I totally agree with the MD, the doubling is almost the whole coin which is pretty cool... the "R" and the "E" however seem to be split, not shelved.... normally Split indicates DDO, shelf, like you said, indicates MD...
