I received this one about a month ago (I am guessing) but don't remember ever taking pictures of it to see what others thought. I am not a Toned coin lover but this one was cheap enough and was also a VAM-82 so I purchased it. The colors are pretty accurate and that was the main reason of me taking the pictures because I was trying to get the colors correct with the new camera. This one is in a ICG slab

curious what grade they give it - an interesting coin, almost apocryphal with a cloud of darkness coming over the face of Liberty

Nice 78 Bryan. Are the photos pretty accurate as to the coin's in hand appearance?

ICG is a pretty solid company. That reverse had a rough going of it. Still, I'll say, they market graded it MS-64PL, as well. That luster is dulled-down, some, but the surface looks mirrored enough to at least arguably go PL. Nice coin, Bryan.

I don't see any wear, just some high-point friction on the wreath high points that has disrupted the original luster and frost. That won't be enough to drop it from MS but will affect the final grade. I'd call it MS-63, limited by the spots and streaks in the fields, the weak strike around the eagle's legs, and the luster grazes. The toning looks fully original. These photos don't show enough proof-like surface to garner a P-L designation IMO.

Is VAM-82 a particularly valuable variety?

Not in the bigger picture, although the air gets pretty thin up around MS64 or so. This one has a decent shot at 65.

the splotchy Reverse toning is what I think keeps this one down as far as eye appeal. I have some MS-64's and even a couple MS-65's that have more hits than this one has but they are blast white and are very nice looking coins. Anyhow most were almost spot on with ICG, these are pictures from the JVC because I didn't want to drag out the dSLR to take these shots
