Hi - Does anyone know if the 50c capsules used by the RAM that they use on the UNC carded coins (eg. wedding, moon landing, comm games) are available anywhere? the RAM are not very helpful in telling their supplier details... thanks

As far as I know they are not available anywhere and the RAM haven't ever said where they come from. They are great little capsules. Maybe it's a patent or copyright thing.

I get the feeling that they don't want others copying and selling fakes... One thing of interest is that being a Govt Dept, they are required under the GIPA legislation to publish the details of every contract over $150k. I couldn't find it right now, but in the past I have trawled through and contacted any company that is listed as providing "packaging materials" but no luck...

Hi Wesley, I would be most grateful if you would be able to dig it out... I have called the Mint of several occasions and they refused to give any info at all - I guess it depends on who answers the phone and how they are feeling that day. cheers steve

The 50c and $1 capsules used by the RAM I suggest are from the same supplier (but I have no evidence of this).
If I may quote from another forum, a member there "pussycat" kindly made mention of where these capsules came from but couldn't let the cat out of the bag further. "The capsules however were not handed out and you cannot buy these from the source in Brookvale,RAM has the copyright to this capsule and you simply cannot get them,a pity because they are great sealed storage and are well proven to stop toning in these Al/Br coins"

hmmm, thanks purple penny. maybe if enough of us got together and showed significant demand, the RAM would start selling them? Brooky hey, I lived in Manly for many years and know the area well... there can't be that many potentials... think I will do a drive by and see if I can locate them... maybe a case of beer or two will do the trick? I only need a few........

Hi Nancy - isn't the internet just the greatest? I came across the same company last night... I found (by google search) an excel spreadsheet from AusTender which outlines all government tenders... simple sort by Gov Dept, isolated the RAM contracts, looked in the description field and found "BLISTER PACK 50 CENT" - WOW how cool! will go out there today and see what I can see...

I was looking at RAM offers of tender too and trolling the annual reports but didn't come up with anything yet.
Great going guys, love to hear more.
