I was out at all the coin shops today and picked up some nice coins

One I did not buy ...yet .. is a 1972 DDO
Unless I know a lot about a coin I try not to buy on the
first look.

They have it marked AU. It does look pretty good .. except
there are three or four "dark spots" they might come off with Verdicare .. but not sure.

What are some of the expert opinions on this coin, are they hard to come by .. will they maintain value?

Are there better coins to spend $200 on.

I did buy a 1914 D for $230 today .. is a 72 DDO in the same value range as a F/VF 1914 D. I could go back first
thing in the morning and pick it up for $210 .. if that is a good buy? I know .. hard to say with out pictures .. but I have to ask.

If you like it that's a decent price. I have several of the 1972 DDO s. But not the BIG one.

That's a good deal....if it's real. BEWARE fake ones! Most dealers can't even authenticate them.

If the coin has spots...then...the coin has spots. Go find a problem free coin.

BadThad .. I was just reading up on these in my PCGS coin grading and Counterfeit Detection ..

If I am getting what they are saying.. it should have a small gouge near the rim, just above the "D" in UNITED.

If it has that and looks good would you feel good about it being a real DDO?

This book says it is the least forged coin .. in the ones they have listed

Remembeerr "problem coins" will still have problems... nice coins can get messed up, but starting with a nice coin, is much better. just MHO

Paid $169 for mine in MS-63 this past winter. Suggest going to coppercoins and looking at the die markers before you buy one though. And be sure we are talking about #001, all the rest are much less except #004.

After hearing these replies .. I don't have a good feeling about it

I will look at it one more time .. but

I most likely will let this one pass

get a slabbed one if you decide to get one. The 55 DDO is my favorite though.
