I'm a starter and thinking to order one box of half dollars, but I'm wondering how you guys deal with the coins being searched and you don't want them any more?

just return them to the bank, a different branch or even company if you have more then one account at different banks and hope you don't get the same coins back down the line. I mark the rolls after a search them. This way if I get the exact same roll in the exact same paper I will know and won't waste my time searching. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I only search a box a week

Or spend them. If you have a car use them for gas- they will go real quick that way.

Most banks will quickly get tired of seeing halves returned. We use TD Bank because they have a good coin counter that is free for account holders. Saves you sshaving to re roll the coins and makes the process quicker. Especially since we seriously search dimes, and occasionaly pennies nickels and quarters. Rolling all that....pffffftttt.

My bank doesn't accept rolled coins, they must be kept loose. I have had no problem giving them a bag full and having their counter sort and count them. I don't do it too often though - once or twice a month. I also keep a jar full of change in my car and pay for drive-thru's that way.

My bank branch (Bank of America) does not accept rolled coins. I found this out the hard way 3 years ago when I rolled 5 years' worth of change and took the rolls in. They chuckled, handed me a big plastic deposit bag and told me to break the rolls and dump 'em in. 20 minutes of roll-busting later they took the bag and sent it to a counting facility. The money was credited to my account a week later.

Like drdave, I keep lots of coins like that in my car for when I get my morning coffee at the drive through. $1.61 for a coffee at McD's, so you can burn a lot of halves at 4 a pop.

Myself, I spend them so that I won't usually "find" them again. Kind of cool to see someone go "HUH"? or have a pleased look on their face as they scarf it up. I even got into a very nice conversation with a clerk who knew about coins.

I also use td bank , the only problem is their coin counters on my area are kind old and after $ 100 they have to come and open the machine " oh god that guy again " ! I ll follow the answers seeking for a better way of dump lol.

I dump at TCF - they have coin counters in the lobbies of all the branches and at most of the branches inside grocery stores. TCF has A LOT of branches in my area so I try to mix it up a bit and never dump more than $1K at a time and try not to visit any branch more than every other week. I've yet to find a bank that will accept rolled coin - a real pain when I get a solid box of pennies or nickels :(

The TD banks we use know us when we go in and they come around to change the bags. The BOA here take rolled coins. Maybe that was just the branch you use.

I reroll and exchange for another box. My bank is happy to order and take back boxes.

I use PNC bank which has like 8 branches in my area, all of their facilities have coin counters, either behind the counter or in the lobby. I just plan out my shopping trips so I can dump at further branches more conveniently, this way each bank will only see me once a month. I try to spread out my visits as much as possible, cause I know they just hate seeing me lug in 2 bank bags of halves.

i reroll them and mark on the paper so I dont find them again. Recently I have come across a bank that deals with $20 rolls of halves so I asked and they gave me some $20 roll sleeves for my halves. That will be interesting to turn into a bank.
