Hey,

I wanted to have you all take a look at this seemingly nice quarter from way back.

Here are this coin's specs. that I personally measured:

1) no attraction to a magnet

2) 6.70 grams total weight

3) 1.63 ave. thickness

4) 24.25 mm diameter

Please assign a grade and comment if you perceive that any issues exist etc...

thanks

I'm concerned about authenticity on this coin. I haven't inspected any fake bust quarters but this one doesn't look right. The date numerals in particular stand out. The 1's are too thin and the 3 lacks the pronounced knobs at the end of both the top and bottom curves which are present on genuine coins. The stars also appear poorly formed. I strongly suspect this coin isn't real. Check out this image of a Heritage coin certified as AU-58 by PCGS:

It sounds like you've had your coin for a long time. Where did it come from?
Rest in Peace

I would try to take some pictures with better lighting. I see what Jaobler is saying, but it looks like thinness of the letters and lacking of certain features could be due to the lack of light in areas which would blend the fields and devices to some degree.

I won this coin at an auction back in Feb. of 2010.

I will work on the 2nd attempt of a picture sometime during the coming week.

Incidentally, the images you are seeing here came from an Epson Workforce printer/scanner set at 720 dpi.

I am not very optimistic that another photo will produce noticeably different results but I will try nonetheless.

thanks

I hope these additional photos allow for a better informed decision on the grade and authenticity.

Thanks,

Please let me know if I still need to take some additional photos with different lighting in order to receive some feedback regarding the authenticity of this coin.

Your closeups show that the coin has a reasonably strong repunched date, something that would more than likely not be present on a spurious example. You have the Large Letters type(equally common with Small Letters) but I am not sure of the Browning variety number for the RPD. It probably won't mean much to anyone besides a Capped Bust specialist though. Based on the images, I would grade it Choice VF, just short of EF, with no obvious signs of a cleaning. If it has been done, it was a long time ago and done with limited impact.
