I found a really nice certified AU55 1939-s Washington that would look nice sitting in my collection. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...170647264821 It really is a nice coin, and I was ready to bid a few bucks above Numismedia to get it. Numismedia / NGC has it at $51.75 I was going to go nuts and bid $60.00 to be sure I got it. This morning it is at $73.08 Not sure where it will land, but for that price, we should be approching MS60 or so. For sure I am out. And the E-snipe crowd has not weighed in yet . . . . Any thoughts as to what might be driving this one?

It is nice...maybe the bidders are referring to the RedBook. Mine has it at au 50 for 60 bucks, and ms 60 for 95 bucks. Then there's the allowance for shipping. Not to mention...it's always worth what someone is willing to pay...no matter what price guide you go off of.

From the pics it looks nicer than AU-55. Maybe you got some bidders playing the crack and resubmit game. If its truly AU55, which we have to assume it is, I would say its on the upper end of the AU55 scale.

Man that is a beautiful Washington. It sure looks better than an AU55 to me. Never can tell though, maybe there's something being hidden by the photos that we're just not seeing. Sure has a nice luster to it!

I dunno. The fact that it was graded correctly instead of market graded at MS65? "I find this coin to be super attractive, I can't understand why anyone else would want it." I'm looking at a MS63 breakout coin.

If it were me I would pass on it. I fooled around with the picture and it looks like a partial fingerprint on the neck and cheek is developing. There will be another one coming down the pipe sooner or later.

I would bet it's an MS64 coin. There is no way that is AU IMO. That reflects the high bid.

It's a war now. $86 this morning with 13 hrs to go. Two guys are bidding each other up. I'm betting that it really is AU55, but somehow photographs better. I mean, you got to believe the NGC guys right? Right? In which case someone's going to get hosed. I wonder how many esnipe bids are lurking? Anyhow, kinda fun to watch.

I see a coin with wonderful luster and what looks like a smashing strike. Were I the gambling type, this is one I'd risk a Benjamin on, in order to crack and resubmit to PCGS. It's close to a $300 coin in MS65.

Dave, I would expect the dealer to have the wherewithal to do exactly that. These guys do not appear to be a bunch of chumps, this looks to be top notch outfit. I ain't biting in any case (sorely tempting though), but I bet a Ben will not he enough. You wanna go halfs? Hmmmmmmm . . . . . How would we make that work?
