Another Long Beach Show purchase. I was looking for "junk" indians for my roll, and stumbled on this one which is actually very nice and has plenty of cartwheel luster. A few scratches and scuffs, but still one of the nicer ones for the roll. Paid a little over melt for her.

Hey SD. I paid $400 for this indian. If you are buying on ebay, common indians in lower grades usually command about a 8-10% premium over spot. From my experience with indians, the best "bang for my buck" comes from buying in NGC AU detail "cleaned" slabs. It's important when buying these on ebay to know they are genuine, and NGC seems to be strict on what they consider "cleaned", and can be perfect budget type examples that are often cheaper than raw equivalents. Problem free certified AUs usually run $460 and up. Here are a couple of others that I bought recently for $400 or less in NGC

I just love the design of these. Very distinctive. I had one years ago, but sold it; I wish I hadn't. I am destined to acquire another, with gold at the wrong price for me.

I imagine it is very hard to get one without scratches, so I will just keep on folornly looking for one. You see! I will get a nice one eventually!

Yeah, that too mkman(which is where I got the 1912). My personal opinion on the 1912 is AU-58 details with some minor damage. I've owned and seen many certified indians in the AU53-55 range, and in general, they have almost zero luster in the fields at that grade. The luster is extremely important on incuse gold because, since the fields are raised above the devices, the luster tends to rub off very quickly in circulation(as opposed to non-incuse coins the luster is more protected because of the raised devices). So an indian with decent cartwheel luster imho should be high AU at bare minimum.
