G'day & welcome,

it may be an English coin: their King in 1689 was James II, or in Latin "IACOBUS II".
Dei Gratia is Latin for "By the Grace of God".
James II fled England after the Revolution of 1688.
I am aware that since then (circa 1727) the calendar was restructured, but I am nevertheless a little surprized to see him on a coin dated 1689. Unless, of course, it is "Gun money", minted during James' attempt to re-take his kingdom -

If that's what you've got, I'd be a little envious.

Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon ...

What we'd really like are -
pictures of both sides;
diameter; and
what metal do you think it is composed of ?

Hello and welcome.

What you've got definitely sounds like a "gunmoney" halfcrown. "Ang" is actually "Aug" - short for August. "XXX" is the denomination mark, there being 30 pence to a halfcrown.

I have an August 1689 gunmoney halfcrown, purchased at a local coin auction for $33 back in 1998. Here are pics:
