You could probably do pretty well with the young heads up to maybe George VI on ebay as there are a lot of collectors for them. Plus the older ones have different varieties since most came from more than one mint. Take good pics though, front and back. As for the modern ones, I see them mixed in with world coin lots all the time because they are not as valuable. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck!

I have a few Victoria dates on my want/upgrade list, so please let me know if you plan on searching them and selling individually. I can e-mail you my list.

If you want to sell them then we have a place for that. Otherwise this thread will be removed

Your mention of Victoria and the early Georges implies that they're actually 1d and 1/2d coins. The "p" abbreviation is only used for decimal pence coinage.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I was also misled by "p" - the title needs to be altered to read 1d and 1/2d. First, it is my duty to remind you that it would be illegal to "scrap" them - this would apply to any bronze penny or halfpenny 1860 onwards. That law does not apply to farthings, which had been demonetised in 1960, before decimalisation. Copper coins ceased to be issued in 1860 and are rather scarce, as indeed are many of the bronze (post-1860) "bun head" issues (where Queen Victoria has her hair gathered up in a "bun" at the back). I suggest that you sort out the best ones, also the scarcest years, and put them on ebay. If you can't photograph them easily, just put them on a scanner. To assist in scanning, I put a piece of card with a 2-inch square hole cut in it, on one corner of the scanner screen (clean screen first!) and use this as a "target" so that I only scan 2" x 2". You can trim off any excess background using Microsoft Office Picture Manager. The whole job takes about 2 minutes per coin. I recommend simple, but recognisable, titles for them, such as 1874H 1d o (1874, Heaton mint, 1d obverse), and for halfpennies, 1874 hd are (1874 half-penny reverse). Watch for the "H" or "KN" mintmarks which only appear in a few years. "H" in 1874, 1875, 1876, 1881, 1882, 1912, 1918, 1919 on pennies, 1874, 1875, 1876, 1881, 1882 on halfpennies and 1874, 1875, 1876, 1881, 1882 on farthings. "KN" (Kings Norton) only appears on pennies of 1918 and 1919. The "H" and "KN" varieties are not particularly scarce, but some collectors really go for them - although sometimes The Royal Mint issues of the same year are scarcer! For eBay-UK, keep the title simple, but searchable. Something like "1874H 1d (one penny) - see illustrations" will show that you know what you are offering. "L@@K" is a no-no! Good luck, you might even notice me bidding for some of them! Bill.

Thanks guys Title edited-I just used common language. Thanks Bill-very good tips in your post.Sorry GO-no selling here.I usually take photos. My camera is quite good with coppers(silvers are to shinny even with black background)Great tip with scanner though.I cant wait for Saturday when I will have some time to sort them.Ebay is good solution.I'm thinking of small lots like 10 coins, different dates runs maybe 1 or 2 1/2d in it I don't know what to do with them.Mostly modern issues, only few older dates.About scraping coins-I would never do that.I absolutely hate melt value description.Even common 1/2d one day become piece of history. Why destroy it?

I would package them up in various ways, in lots, where the the coins within each lot are related to each other in some way. The lot size should be in the range of say, 3 to 40 coins, depending on the nature of the lot. I would ebay say about 10 lots in a batch of ebay listings, and repeat the process every couple of months, or whenever you feel inclined, or when you could need some extra money. Just keep it at level where you, and the ebay respondents are kept interested.

If you're going to ebay then pay particular attention to weight. The UK post office has some sneaky weight breaks where 1 extra gram can cost you an extra 20p or more. Weigh everything with all packaging before you price it on the bay. This is useful: http://pricefinder.postoffice.co.uk...=pricingcalcit's the Post Office cost calculator. And I feel your pain, I'm currently sorting through 11-12,000 pennies to find a few specific dates for someone and it's taking forever. ( Sorry AMR) Bob

I'm halfway through.I'm not looking for any varieties at this point, just sort them by the date and denomination.I found so far few full dates runs of Ed VII and Geo VI,not many 1/2d though.I also got some old coppers, some cartwheels and bunch of worn dates 1d and 1/2d.By the way-have you heard of octagonal halfpenny?Looks like Geo II but I cant find any reference on it.Very worn and I cant figure out the date.Irregular octagon but still octagon.Ill try to post pics later.Size about 23-25mm.Bibd-check your spam box.
