Thanks for the welcome Broka Toe. Here is the Reverse of the coin. Now that I have a grasp on posting pics, I look forward to sharing some cool error coins as well as World coins and Currency notes. Have a good one!

to the forum, Nickelodeon! That's a beautiful 20c coin! I really look forward to seeing your error coins. I love finding errors. Do you collect them from anywhere, or just Canada? Maybe we can swap some.

Hi nancyc.Greetings from Canada! Pocket change is my primary source for finding error coins. At times, family and friends will drop over with a roll of pennies, or a few world coins, to look through. I will post some of them on the Candadian Error & Variety section, as time permits. Trades? I need more posts I think, and there is a Postal strike here, so things are up in the air, so to speak. Hope all is well "Downunder". :)

Quote: Trades? I also get my errors from change, so they are generally well circulated and showing their age.

I have had a long conversation with Stuart Devlin, the designer of the reverse.
He was once Goldsmith H.M. Queen Elizabeth 11.
He remarked, that of all of his coin designs, the definitive reverse of the Australian 20 cent was his most satisfying. He was able to successfully depict a water surface on a metal surface, which is artistically difficult to achieve, which is in a round 'frame' rather than a rectangular one.
The design requirement in his commission was to depict a platypus on the 20 cent coin, and he has achieved this, with the animal in it's natural environment, under water. I do not know of any subject that has achieved an under water depiction, until the advent of this coin.
This design is still highly viable, even if the coin is extremely worn, when all of the design intent still shows up perfectly.
I can understand why he is justifiably proud of this work.

sel_691 Thanks for sharing the design history of this coin. Mr. Devlin has done a remarkable job. Australian coins are very popular here in Canada, and having one of these Proof coins is a real treat. Thanks again for your post.
