Poll Question
For some reason I do not like the way proof coins look. they are too bright and too perfect that it bothers me. they seem like toys and I don't picture them as being real coins or holding any numismatic value. this is however only my opinion because I know some people love proofs. i'd like to know what you guys think though.

how do you feel about proof coins in general?

I don't mind them.

Basically, I don't collect NCLT's, but I DO collect all proof coins made before most World mints got onto the idea of abusing proofs, to be marketed as NCLT's, for strictly commercial purposes.

For that reason, I draw a line in the sand, and ignore proof coins made after about 1960.

mkman123:that the quality of manufacture of modern proofs has to be good to be successfully marketed.

Don't mind them. Most of my coins are post-1950 pieces; I do not specifically collect proof coins, but sometimes the "frosted/shiny" contrast looks very appealing.

I prefer coins that have actual history as circulating money, rather than coins made solely for collectors. That being said, if I have to choose between a proof coin and no coin at all, I'll take a proof. Looking at it statistically, I own 78 proof coins out of a total of 9909 items in the collection. I voted "don't mind them" but my true feelings for them is probably somewhere between "don't mind" and "dislike".

Already obvious not many really hate them. However, they are just one of the many items the Mint makes to make money.

I'd have to say I like them, despite the fact that I know the mint just uses them as a money-grab (especially the post-1992 silver issues. But, I collect them anyway.

I really love the look of proof coins, but understand how some appreciate circulating coins for their history. I like proofs for what they are; shiny, reflective eye candy! I would love to own a Morgan dollar proof...

I like them.

I started getting proof sets when I was a kid because I like the look of them. However, I treated them different than the coins I collected as a series.

When I moved to Dansco albums (which provide holes for the proof only issues) I got the bright idea to break apart those proof sets and fill those holes on the cheap. Why buy something that I already had?

The reason I say "like" instead of "love" is that I generally prefer my circulated coins. I only collect the modern proofs and if I "loved them" I would feel the need to collected the classic proofs as well.

I like modern proofs as well. They're no replacement for my old coins or my really liked coins, but their still neat.

I like them. I only have a couple proof of business strike coins, and around 20 proof commemorative coins.

Too funny. I just mentioned the other day how I have yet to be bitten by the proof bug. I guess I like the "working man's" coins. I can't say that I hate them though.

I'll vote "don't mind them" even though I don't really care for them. I've never bought any and the only ones I have in my collection have been gifts.

i guess I don't mind them. the only proofs I have are in my State Quarter albums. I have the pdss dansco so I can have all 4 kinds of each quarter. I just wantd a fully complete set. other than that I stay away from the proofs. I actually like the looks of an ms business strike way more than the proof. they seem more real to me and look better in my eye.

thanks for all of the responses, just wanted to see how others feel.
