First time user here. My Wife and I found a box of coins in her fathers effects 20 some years ago. Many collected by his Father..

first, I believe this is a 1921 Morgan dollar?

any help on grading is appreciated!

I'm pretty new to the whole grading process but I have a coin that is almost identical. I was told it was between Almost Uncirculated to Extra-fine and could fetch anywhere between $30 and $40. But You would probally get a melt value for it at about $30 if you sold it to a dealer. Just my thoughts...It
s a beatiful coin though. Hopefully some more experienced coin collectors can affirm my observations. Good luck!

folks.

Yep, that's a 21 Morgan from Fiddle-elephant. If it had a small D or S ay the bottom of the wreath, it would be from Denver or San Fran.

That coin is so plentiful that it usually is quoted separately from the rest of the Morgans.

It's actually a different reverse design from the 1878-1904 issues. The breast feathers look like plates. The earlier ones look like, well, feathers. Compare any two high grade circs or uncs.

First off to CCF fellow Michigander . I would say that if all your going to get is melt value for that coin you should keep it for sentimental reasons, maybe continue your wifes' fathers/grandfathers collection.

First off, I do not see any wear on the high points of the coin at the resolution you provided. There is a mark on the neck but it could of come from the bad it was in. There is still oringal mint luster on the reverse along with some nice Patina starting on both the obverse and reverse. All details look fully struck and bold, I would have to go with an AU-58/Brillant Uncirculated. If it is MS, I could not begin to give you the number that would correspond with that grade.

Nice coin, did her father have anymore? Pictures are always appreciated here and

Understanding that the pictures are a bit small (if very sharp)....I see no reason to believe this coin has circulated. In fact, it's a pretty strong strike in 1921 terms. At very worst, this one is an upper-level Almost Uncirculated.

I'd say at least an MS-63, possibly could even get an MS-64 or MS-65 grade.

Oh, hello. I'm guessing this isn't your first time holding a camera. Ah, no wonder (looked at EXIF data).

MS64.
