I just picked this up today. Any opinions on the grade? I have my guess based on the Red Book guidelines, but want to compare to a consensus here on CCF. Thanks in advance!

VF was my first reaction - but it might grade higher because of the horn.

Thanks again for the grade opinions. These early date (non-1913) Buffalos aren't easy to find in nice grades.

I just don't see how it could be vf30. As I see the coin the horn is mostly visible, wear on braids, and on cheekbone. I would say vf20 all day. Please explain how you graded it as vf30?

I'm in the vf-20 on this also-I'd have to see more horn to go higher. And you're right, try putting together a set of these in vf-xf-it;s just as difficult as an MS set.

Definitely a mid-VF. I share your pain. I'm doing the same thing in trying to build a VF or better set. I have my 18/7-D and 37-D 3 leg in to NGC for grading, but I'll be happy with a Fine on bofum. I did snag a great 13-S T2 in AU at auction.

afclassic87: There is such a small variation in grade between VF20 and VF30 in the Buffalo serries.

If I'm going to buy this coin I think it looks like a F12 if I'm going to sell its got to be VF25/30.

With this coin there is a good price variation between those grade.

The photo is not the greatest I thought a little fudge facter. It probably looks a little better in hand than the photo.

I did not make an offer. It was my dime, Two Cents isn't enough any more.

If you compare Red Book, PCGS photograde, and any other grading system one comes away very confused.

If you look at the coin that are graded by TPG you are even more confused.

This is just an guess we are all making.

I probably messed up maybe it should have been VF20 but I'll stick with VF25. oops did I really say VF30;-}

Las Vegas Larry: Thank you for your extra 5 or 10 points! I don't even know the exact guidelines separating VF-20 from 25 from 30. I am happy enough with VF-20, but I will say that the horn seems better when in hand (and I'm trying to be frank in that assessment). I'm still working on being a better coin photographer. (And to think... they don't even move... how hard can it be!)

Thanks again everyone!
