Some of you might recall the interesting 1922 threepence I posted some months ago. Well, to my surprise I found a second with the exact same mark on the reverse.

Would this classify as a die variety--and would anyone here be interested in the second example? The second coin is a bit more worn--VG perhaps; the dealer is asking USD $5 (AUD 4.67)

If you'd like the coin, send me a PM and I'll pick it up from the dealer for you. I have a good record shipping to Australia and Canada.

Looking at that line (and on this particular denomination and year) I can understand how some people claim the 192/21 threepence overdate is just a defective die. If your dealer moved that line down over the 2 he could up his price from $5 to over $10,000.

Yes, didn't the RAM create some controversy when it declared the 1922/1 not an overdate?
All the same, I check every 1922 3d I find, which is how I noticed this mark.

Peter, yeah--someone really gave the die a hard whack--with something.
The recesses around the primary mark suggest a raised lip of displaced metal.
I hope to get this second one to Nancy so she can have an opportunity for a closer look.
