At a Coin Show that happens here every few months, there was a seller who had a PCGS slabbed 1846 Half Dime in G-4, and they wanted $750 for it. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm not sure that's too far off the mark. The only relevant sale I can find is an NGC VG-8 that went for $862.50 (including vig) at Heritage a year ago. They own a very low mintage and heavy circulation - I don't believe any Mint State examples are known. Heck, the guy who owns the 1870-S Half Dime (look for "Simpson" on the PCGS Registry) only has one of these in AU53.

Perhaps he does?

The thing is from the plethora of price guides I've seen, for G-4, it's anywhere between $250-$450. I'd go off the Graysheet though, but even the most current Graysheets don't even show it close for $750 in G-4. Maybe VG, but not G-4.... hmmm... I'm in quite a knot here....

Some coins go for much more than the grey sheet because of availability. If you like the coin throw out an offer. Can't hurt.

The only way I would pay that is if I were smoking crack. LOL 250 at most. For that price it better be Fine at minimum.
