Do the third party grading services mark Mercury dimes as FSB only if there are FSB? In other words, if a slab is not labeled as having FSB, is it safe to assume it does not have FSB?

As far as I know, FSB designation is automatic. You don't have to ask for it.

No, what meant was, if there is no mention of FSB on the label, is it safe to assume it is not? It's just that I have seen several ebay auctions with Mercs that are slabbed and you can read the grading label with no mention of FSB... and the photo isn't close enough to allow you to see if the bands are split or not... so, does the fact the bands are not mentioned mean it most likely does not have FSBs?

SuperDave's answer still stands. If a dime truly has split bands, it will be noted as such on the slab label when it is graded. There are plenty of coins in slabs that would be 95% FB but close does not count for the designation, either it is or it is not.

Merc, the answer is no, if it doesn't say it, it doesn't have it.
