My question... are these Whitman boards worth anything? They are almost mint condition. Some history... A friend of mine pulled out these boards for my review. What a fantastic collection! This collection has sat untouched since the second world war and are housed in 11x14 Whitman boards copy righted in 1938. Obviously, the LWC board is to die for. It has been a week, and I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor! I have removed just a few of the coins to inspect the reverse (1909 S VDB, 1909 IH, etc), and they are just fine. This collection has deep family history, and belonged to a scientifically inclined couple who attended the University of Chicago in the late 30s. They are in fact housed in you of Chicago 11x14 envelopes from that time. This collection was started by a woman when Liberty nickels were still in circulation and passed to her daughter in the 1930s, when they were transferred to these boards. Her son is my friend and is 60 years young. Thus far, I have graded the nickel and IH cent boards. Saving the best for last, I'm eager to tackle the LWC collection! The funny thing about these boards is they say 1938, 1938 D and 1938 S for the Buffalo nickel. She threw some UNC and perhaps a proof '39 Jefferson into the last slots. I've included some additional pics of the rarer/nice coins just for fun. Thanks for taking a gander! Edited by Drsandman2 06/14/2011 11:48 pm

Those coin boards are awesome and quite collectible in their own right and then to have them mostly filled is incredible.

Those are really cool ..
I find the Lincoln 1922 interesting .. calling it a "BROKEN D" and there is a coin in the slot
Also cool .. that the 1885 Liberty head nickel is in there .. but not the 1886 and that they have a slot labeled for the 1913 nickel ...
Also like the 1858 FE .. it would look great in my type set ..
Overall .. that would be a very fun set to look over .. thanks for sharing

I am so jealous! I have my liberty head nickels in a Whitman board (not nearly as nice as those) - I was so happy to hear that the coins were in good shape after all these years. I was planning on finishing (I am two away now), taking a picture and then putting the high priced nickels back in their intercept shield 2x2s. But I would much rather keep them in the board because it really makes for a wonderful presentation.

What is the broken D on the 1922? The coin in the slot appears normal to me.
