So I was perusing a new coin shop today and in one of there cases I saw this 1997p dime struck off center listed for $10. I have no idea what these types of things are worth but it seemed a little on the cheap side for such a large one like this that is dated. It also appears to be BU. My apologies for the poor pictures but if anyone could tell me approximately how much this would be worth? I've checked ebay and found no similar coins for sale. The same shop had a datelss one that was BU and about 90% off center but it didnt have a date. Should I go back and try to get it for a similar price if I can?

Many thanks,
Xavier of Green

Try this ebay link. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R...l-Categories
I see anywhere from $25 to $75 but for completed listings I only see $12 to 25 or so.

As for the other one I wouldn't be as excited about the ones without dates but that's just me. It would be awesome to find a 90% that still had a date. Or maybe a bi-centennial or commemorative that the date is obvious.

The date is very light, but visable in hand. I suspect the reason why the coin dealer didnt have it priced higher is because he didnt see the date himself, but then again he also had half dollars in his foriegn junk bin that he sold me for 30 cents each.

I havent seen any other 97p's up for sale in either complete listings or active. Is it a rarer date for off centers? And if so does that affect the price?

Anytime you can get an error that will not fit in a roll for $10, you have done well Since the date would have been next to the edge, the strike would be very weak- the metal would flow outward instead of flowing into the recesses of the dies. Post-2000 errors are much less common than 20th century errors. New QC measures such as riddlers for size exclusion separation and the discontinuation of small canvas mint bags has severely limited the number of good errors getting into public hands.

I most certaintly did! I have no idea how a shop can make money selling coins at less than face value lol. I feel sorry for the people that the shop bought them from, they probobly got only 10 or 15 cents for each one!
