I know its good to collect stuff within your price range and the goal is to have fun. I was looking for some collecting tips from any of you. I have a list of 10 things I am looking for and it includes

1. BRITISH SILVER COINS
2. BRITISH NON SILVER COINS
3. INTERNATIONAL BANK NOTES
4. Kennedy halves
5. INDIAN HEAD USA PENNIES
6. CANADA DIMES VG + OR BETTER 1959 AND EARLIER
7. CANADA 5 CENT 1925 1932
8. CANADA 1 CENT 1858, 1892, 1894, 1922, 1923
9. CANADA LARGE CENTS
10. OTHER SILVER INTERNATIONAL COINS

Is it bad to focus on this many things at once? I would like to knock off the canada 1 and 5 cents so I can put them to bed. I will eventually focus on the pre 1921 canada 5 cent but want to spend some time on a few other things too. Any thoughts to help me out. I know the non silver british coins have very little value

If it's what you want , why not work on it? You might just run into something you eventually want, so get it while it's cheap and you can , because coin prices seem to be a one-way street.

if you have the money, it would be ok. But if you don't, focus on one at a time.

I collected everything for many years but then in the last few years I began focusing on Lincoln Cent varieties. So I say do what keeps you happy and interested ! Nobody can tell you what to do unless you have a specific goal in mind.

I concentrate on everything:

World coins from the inception of coinage, up to 1960, all centuries, all cultures.
Proofs before 1960
Errors
Patterns

Downside: Such a policy needs lots of reference books, and even then, you don't have nearly enough.

Upside: You never stop learning about the World coinages, cultures and history.

I would agree with this except for one thing. If you don't a lot of money FOCUS on one thing , but have one or two secondary collections you can also work on if the primary just isn't going anywhere. Eventually you will get to the point on you primary collection where the coins just aren't out there or are coming at one or two a year or less. It gets very frustrating to go to show after show and not find anything you need for that primary set. Having a secondary collection lets you look for something else when you strike out on your primary. One note of caution though, do not let your secondary collection drain away all your coin money so that when something does show up for the primary you don't have the money for it.

I usually make a list of what I need, want, would like for taking to a coin show. I purposely forget to take it along and just buy whatever I want.
