Here is a 49 Lincoln. Is there a die crack on the reverse? I am not sure what it is because I am new at this. Sorry for the fuzzy's on the coin.

My best guess would be, from the pics available, lamination. But maybe someone else can chime in if I'm wrong...

I'm seeing a wicked (in the sense of being a good thing) lamination, too.

Is it me, or does the date and motto look extremely thick?

Doesn't look like a lamination to me. My vote is PMD.

I am still not positive what lamination is but I did poke around this site and found other coins listed under "lamination".

Would I be correct in guessing that a lamination error happens when the metal, for what ever reason, has flaw that essentially creates a pocket or fissure that can eventually create discoloring and / or break away & show through to the surface? If I am way off base; please ignore the previous blather!

Sorry the pics are not better, but in hand the coin's damaged area looks to have split upwards and I do not see any sheering of the metal. It looks like the edge towards the middle of the coin separated and lifted slightly.

Don't know if any of this will help with the coin. Just trying to learn more about my fun new hobby!

Thanks; appreciating all of the help! I have been learning lot!

Here's another '49 Lincoln:

Don't see any laminations on this one, but it looks like one on the cent to me!

IMO its none these:

die crack, form the description, the smaller portion is incuse, that would not happen with a die crack.

and PMD, the end of the wheat stalk would not be there if it were PMD.

so I would vote lamination or strike through, if you can get some clearer pics, it will be easier to identify.

Toddjfritz, it's just where the metal came apart, peeled away, if you will, due to a fouled-up alloy formation. Yours is cool; wicked cool!

PS: Dave, now that's a '49 Lincoln!
