I am new to the whole grading process and what to looks for (price difference is also key). Also I'm not sure if there are a lot of fakes out there for Indian Heads. I saw this on ebay
and I wanted to get your opions on the grade and why its graded like this it was up for 34.99 and I have no idea if thats a good deal. It also might be fake I just dont know.

Thanks for the Information.

Casey Parman

My guess would be a MS61

Yes, that's true, but 1902 is a really common year. The likelihood of this one being a counterfeit is pretty low.

Although I'd say the coin is genuine, the way the coin is presented makes me suspicious. It appears to be in a PCGS holder (which would be a good thing), yet the seller does not mention that...why?

I'd be willing to bet the coin is in a PCGS "Genuine" holder. In other words, it's a problem coin. The coin looks like it has cleaned or otherwise altered surfaces.

I though it looked like it was in a holder. (my first though was he doesn't want the buyer to know the grade). you say it looks like it was cleaned/altered how can you tell that? also I was reading it indian heads have to have 2 letters shown to be a VG grade. What is it considered if it has all the letters, and what if there are none.

For me, it's the spots on the surface. They're at odds with what looks like really nice luster. The seller really shot himself in the foot this time, showing such nice sharp images that make it obvious the coin is in a PCGS slab. Why would you not then tell the grade? It's obviously a "Genuine."

I have to agree with the others.
The coin appears to be in a PCGS holder.
If it was MS graded, seller would indicate.
Must be a 'Genuine'.
Rest in Peace

Don't like the spots, obviously cleaned. Lots of holders out there, I doubt it's pcgs. Would only go TPG for ms63+
