From Buddy: The Royal Canadian Mint has a set of new coins which includes a token made for this event. Cost $20. The coins are set in a cardboard holder which is then covered in plastic. (Another good souvenier.) Hey Buddy, How can I get a couple of the Royal Canadian Mint sets you mention?

Quote:Sorry just carl -- they change the color of the wrist bands daily and you have to pay admission each day. Still -- it was only $4 with the coupon. ANA members get in free so it is worth it to join if you are going for the whole week. Didn't know that. Used to be you would pay once for entrance and that was good for every day. They must need sthe money. I didn't go to that one but at another show in Countryside last Sunday everyone was talking about how expensive everything there was.

Roylorraine -- I don't know for sure where you could get the ANA set of coins but you could try the Canadian mint. If they didn't sell out I suppose that they would still sell them. BTW, they were advertised for $20 but I bought mine for $15. They only made 500 sets. Justcarl -- no kidding -- bottled water was $3.50! I didn't really shop for coins for my collection because everything there seemed to be pretty high-end stuff and I am just not ready to buy expensive pieces yet. I still have a lot to learn.

Thanks for the answer Buddy. It is too bad you din,t buy a half a dozen of them because they were only available at the show itself and now on the secondary market, they are being sold for $60.00 each! Plus shipping! RL

Check this out on E-Bay. Item number#[eBayItem]150651750476[/eBayItem]. Last years Beijing set is over $200.00 if you can find it. A mintage of only 500 for a set that is only available at the individual shows like this, is not very many for collectors like myself who can,t attend the world Coin fair in Berlin or Chicago or Beijing or where ever. I would like to be able to do that but!

Wow, Roylorraine! I had no idea that a little souvenier would appreciate so much. I am really grateful that you let me know. I bought one the first day I went to the convention because it was one of two things I could afford there. The other was the passport. My husband and I went back the next day to do a couple of passports for our friends' kids and I just decided to grab a couple more of the Canadian sets.
Well, it's nice to know I can sell them if I ever need to and if I don't they will make REALLY nice gifts for the nieces and nephew someday.

Glad to pass on the information. This special 500 maximum mintage coin set has been issued at the World Coin Fair in Beijing, Berlin, Tokyo, the RCNA in Windsor and now Chicago. I am missing the Beijing set and some day, someone may decide to sell it and hopeful I will get my chance. The last one I saw on E-bay went to a buy it now price before I could get in on it. Oh well, life goes on so enjoy ever little bit you can. RL

It's too bad that you can't find a set to complete your collection. I expect someday one will become available but at what cost? Do they make these sets for ever ANA show? or just the big ANA show? I really don't know much about the conventions. And why does only one mint make the sets? Seriously, I would have bought a set from every mint there!

Actually, other Mints do issue their own sets (Australia for example) but is only done for the big shows where there is a display put on by a lot of different mints like at the Worlds Coin Fair which is held twice a year. I hope this information is right. If not, I am sure someone will correct me.

My wife & I went down there & spent a couple of days browsing & learning. I attended 2 very interesting Numismatic Theatre presentations - one on the Comstock Lode & the Carson City mint and one on the Secret History of the First US Mint. Both of them were very well done and had a large audience. Also found a couple of nice Indian Head cents that I needed. All in all had a very good time & was glad I attended.

okieph -- I saw your icon and thought "He lets his dog chew his coin?!" but upon closer inspection, I see that the dog is actually spitting out the coin. I have a cat and all he spits out are fur balls. LOL Wish I had a Coin Dog. Roylorraine -- I hope there is a big show near you sometime because it really was an adventure. I won't be going to another ANA convention until it comes back to the Chicago area in 2013. There are other big ANA conventions but it gets expensive to travel and stay in hotels, etc. I'd rather buy coins.

You are in the right spot for a couple of years anyway. Spending money on coins rather than hotels is soooooo much better. Someday maybe I will to one but for now, I will keep hoping and small time coin collecting. Thanks for the note.
