I will be there in Aug. Driving from Tucson,AZ to see the family for two weeks. It will be the 2nd ANA show I have attended, the 1st one was in Phoenix and I thought it was awesome. Any tips on how to get the deals? I will attend most days. Is it better to buy near the end? What souvenirs should I try to purchase? Thanks for your help.

Usually a really big show. Dealers from all over the country. Not sure how this will effect all the normal local coin shows since there is a sort of big one at a suburb called Countryside the Sunday before this one and another on Sunday right after this one in Itasca. That's 7 days of coin shows in 8 days. If you haven't been to this one before, it's now $6 to get in and not sure how much to park a car. Last time I was there it was $11 to park each day. Normally the entrance fee is for all days you attemd but the parking is per day. Location if you didn't know is the Donald E. Stephen's Convention Center or otherwise called the Roosemont convention Center. 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont, Illinois, 60018.

Thanks Carl. Could you let me know what good memorabilia from the show I should purchase as an investment? I have only been to 1 ANA show here in Phoenix and they had Coins from their coin club. Would the ANA Show Red Book be a good idea? As an example. Thank you for your Knowledge Carl.

Not sure about the prices there for the Red Book. At the Countryside show the Red Book is list price, ringed version $14.95. At the Itasca show I buy mine for $11, either ringed or hard cover. As your example, I'd suggest asking there for prices. Since the World's Fair show is really big, most dealers have to pay a lot for a table, pay for hotels or motels, food, etc., their prices are normally not the greatest. As with any large coin show, take your time, walk around, ask, ask, ask. They used to have a coin given out that commemorates those shows but not sure if they still do that. If you attempt to buy an expensive coin not slabbed, I suggest you walk around with it and ask other dealers if they think it's real. A large show like that could mean a lot of fakes and dealers that no one really knows. An interesting thing is that the Rosemont Convention Center is really large and at times there are many other shows going on at the same time. Once there you many want to check and see if you could take in one of those too. And if your still here on the following Sunday, there is a really large flea market just West of that place still in Rosemont, Illinois. It used to be called the Rosemont Arina. Now known as the Allstate Arina where the indoor football games and other stuff is held. Also, while there look across the street at the add for the Rosemont Theater. Might have something decent there for a change.

Thank you very much foe the Info, I will be there until the 28th so I will look at those suggestions you made. I do know not to buy an expensive coin that is raw, my limit on raw coins is $200-300 tops. I will be looking for some upgrades for my type set and LWC Set. Thanks. will you be at the show?

At most of the coin shows in this area those are one of the biggest sellers so dealers try to come prepared for that. Will I be at that show? I guess I should since I could almost walk there. That is what really gets me ticked a little. They should give us old people cheaper rates but then most people at the show are my age.

Since it's getting closer, I wanted to bump it and see if anyone else has made a decision to attend.

I spent almost all of today at the show and it was FUN FUN FUN!
I bought the passport ($9.50, I think) and visited the Mints of the World. This is a great souvenier. You get a coin from each mint plus a special token made just for the convention.
The food was ridiculously expensive for what it was -- I recommend skipping the hot dog stand (yeah, they sell more than hotdogs) and head out to where you get your tickets. In that great big lobby they set up a a little cafe/cafeteria and, while still pricey ($3.50 for a bottle of water) it is much better and more comfortable.
The collector's exhibits were fascinating! I will go back tomorrow to visit the Smithsonian exhibit.
The whole thing is HUGE and I feel like I didn't get to see enough of the exhibits -- no time to shop... which is probably good since I'm a newbie.

CORRECTION: The Passport to the Mints of the World didn't have the special coin -- I am tired and I got confused. The Royal Canadian Mint has a set of new coins which includes a token made for this event. Cost $20. The coins are set in a cardboard holder which is then covered in plastic. (Another good souvenier.)

MORE INFO. The ANA site has a coupon for $2 off the admission price so that brings it from $6 down to $4. Parking is $13 unless you're staying at a hotel near the convention center. There are several within walking distance and the parking is either a hotel fee or it is covered by the hotel. Several hotels share the parking garage with the convention center.

You forgot to mention that the entrance fee covers several days, not just one. However, the parking fees are for every day. Was only $11 last time I went so I might just keep away this time.

just carl -- YIKES! I tore off my wristband after I left the convention yesterday so I guess I will have to pay again today. Oh well -- live and learn -- BTW I DID read your post where you had written that but did I remember? Nope. (insert sheepish grin here -- LOL)
The worst part about the parking, IMHO, was not the fee but finding a way into the blankety-blank garage. Sure, there are signs and traffic officers but the traffic is heavy and it is hard to change lanes, etc. We figured it out but I think it could have been a lot easier with proper (Larger and Higher) signage.
No matter, my DH and I had a blast there yesterday and we're going back today -- so much to see!

I just got back from my second and last day at the convention. Sorry just carl -- they change the color of the wrist bands daily and you have to pay admission each day. Still -- it was only $4 with the coupon. ANA members get in free so it is worth it to join if you are going for the whole week.
