I just purchased a 2006 MS69 First Strike slabbed NGC $5 bullion coin. To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing, but talked em down to $160. So, I have two questions. What kind of premium is added to slabbed bullion? I assume this is an attempt to add numismatic value to a coin that is typically otherwise traded at about spot? And what kind of premium is added for first strike, and what are first strikes?
Thanks!

there is a added premium to slabbed bullion. Somewhere like 10-25 bucks is added. About the first strike......its all a gimmick for people to shell out more money. Stick with bullion as close to melt as you can :)

$160 for 1/10th oz isn't bad considering melt is $154. For "not knowing what you were doing" that worked out just fine.

Fantastic. I only pick up gold if it seems UNC and at melt. I kinda thought the first strike was loopy.

Definitely not a bad price for what melt is. Throw up some pictures if you can!

That is a great buy, IMO. I'm not a slab slave, but other people are. Most people around me sell the 10ths at 170 whether or not they are slabbed.

It's actually good to have it slabbed (by someone else) because it guarantees the authenticity of the gold.....assuming the slab is authentic. LOL

I really like slabbed gold, if you can get more for the price you paid it is worth it. I dont mind paying 10 or 15 over to ensure its real and kept clean.

You did fine. Slabbed is easier to resell than raw. First Strike means nothing and adds nothing in the 69 grade. May have some premium with 70's.
