I am in no way familiar with paper money, so I'm desperately asking for help on this one...

Bought this from the safe at my work after counting drawers. supposedly someone payed for something with it...

its a 100 dollar bill of the 1928 A series. the serial on the bill is G01736145A. the front looks offly dark, and the back looks really green, almost convincing me for it to be a counterfeit. PLUS, the bill is in impecible condition, it's just astonishing how old it is yet retains it's crispness.

if it is real, I almost question if someone accidently payed with it from their collection >_<.

i guess my question is, how do I tell if it's a fake (what can I do to prove it be real?).

the first thing I look for on questionable bills is the fibers that are in there, kind of look like red hairs or what ever colors are on them at that certain time. I am not sure of any other way since I am no bill collector but maybe someone else has other ways. I know all US currency should have those fibers and if they dont have them then chances are its not legit

Post A pic If Possible , The green In the seals are a lighter green and the Large district numerals replace the common numerals found in most notes and do catch the eye differently form the other green used in more modern notes. And I believe a little Bigger than the other seals. Depends on what federal reserve bank issued it but on the average a 1928 A series (signatures of Woods/ Mellon) in Ef is 250.00 in Cu 500.00 and Ch.cu 800.00 of course there are some depending on FRB that are worth more

It is hard to tell by the photo. But if the photo is showing it right it does not look real to me. You Can try rubbing the note on a napkin you might be able to get some pigment off of it real faint though. and look at the detail in the head of Ben with a loop etc.

hmm I looked at it under a 20x and there is just so much detail with consistancy to every line. I find it almost impossible for someone to counterfeit a bill to this precision. AND, if they did counterfeit it, I question why a 1928, and why throw it into circulation.

on a side note, I did rub it to a napkin and no pigment of paint was released.

some times you can still get some pigment of real American notes especially when they were produced using the "Wet Intaglio type of press". If I can get an image downloaded It demonstrates the blown up view of Ben's head on an Authentic note and a counterfeit. But its to big to download on here

I dabble in currency, have quite a bit of it...yours looks good to me, XXX, I doubt a counterfeiter would try to pass such a conspicuous note anyway...I think I see the cloth fibers in your photos, as well. Another way to check it is to drag the corners lightly thru your finger and thumb...you should feel roughness from the raised areas. Congrats on your find...try flattening it in a book to make it look nicer...just don't forget where you put it!!!!

the reverse photos look good an the light green seals and print on the obverse, but the obverse looks very dark almost black and grainy and thats what makes second guess it. Like I said it might be the photo

Hi XXX, your note is definitely worth more than face...if you're not into currency and want to sell it, I'd be interested
